Dentures
Dentures are common for replacing missing teeth. Whether a few teeth are missing or a whole row of teeth missing, dentures can fill in the gaps. Custom-made for your mouth, dentures are adjusted after the patient receives them to eliminate rubbing or irritation.
Dentures do not just fill gaps to make your smile complete. They restore normal chewing and talking.
For just a few missing teeth, a partial set of dentures would be needed. Custom shaped replacement teeth are attached to plastic and metal framework. The frame clips inside the existing teeth and is held into place by anchoring to the teeth.
For replacing a whole row of teeth, a complete set of dentures would be needed (or two sets if replacing both upper and lower rows). Damaged or diseased teeth may need to be extracted before a complete set of dentures can be made.
Whether partial or complete, these dentures are removable and not meant to be worn overnight. By sleeping without the dentures, the mouth needs a chance to rest, even if the dentures are comfortable all day. The mouth and gums have a natural cleaning process that occurs while sleeping.
Cleaning removable dentures is easy. They need to be brushed just like natural teeth. Gentle brushing removes food and plaque that accumulates during the day. The dentures are then placed in water overnight to keep them from drying out. Cleaning is easier when using effervescent tablets made especially for dental appliances occasionally.
